List Randomizer
About Tool
Shuffling a list manually is both time-consuming and prone to human bias. This list randomizer provides an instant, impartial way to reorder any set of items. Whether you are creating a random order for presentations, shuffling a deck of virtual cards, or simply trying to mix up your daily to-do list, this tool ensures the new sequence is completely unpredictable.
Configuring the Randomization
The main input area, Items to Shuffle, accepts your list with one entry per line. To ensure your output is clean, you can toggle the Remove duplicates checkbox to strip out any repeating items automatically. If you are using the randomized list for a competition or a structured schedule, the Add numbers to output feature is particularly useful, as it automatically prefixes each item with its new position (e.g., "1. Item Name").
If you only need to select a single item rather than reordering the whole list, the Random Name Picker is a faster alternative. For situations where you want to make the selection process more engaging or visual, the Decision Maker Wheel is a great choice.
Output and Convenience Features
Once you click Shuffle List, the randomized version appears in the output section. You don't have to manually select the text; just use the Copy Result button to grab the entire list for use in an email, spreadsheet, or Slack message. If you are unhappy with the current shuffle, you can click the button again for a completely different permutation. The Clear All button allows for a quick reset when moving between different tasks.
Practical Applications
- Event Planning: Randomize the order of speakers or performers to avoid accusations of favoritism.
- Coding and Data: Create a random order for test data or survey options to eliminate "ordering bias" in results.
- Social Games: Shuffle a list of prompts for charades or assign random partners for a group activity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it save my list?
No. For privacy and security, Simple.Tools does not store your data. Once you refresh or close the tab, the list is gone.
Can I shuffle numbers and text together?
Yes, the randomizer treats every line as a string, so you can mix names, numbers, and symbols freely.
How many items can I shuffle?
The tool is optimized for lists up to several thousand items. For significantly larger data sets, processing might slow down slightly depending on your device.
Is the shuffle always different?
Statistically, yes. For any list of a reasonable size, the number of possible permutations is so high that you are unlikely to see the same order twice.
