Image to Text
About Tool
Extracting text from screenshots, scanned documents, or photos can be a time-consuming manual task. This browser-based OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool simplifies the process by analyzing your uploaded images and converting visual characters into editable text. It is designed to work entirely within your browser, ensuring that sensitive documents are never uploaded to a third-party server for processing.
Multi-Language Text Extraction
Optical character recognition is most accurate when the engine knows which characters to expect. The Language selector allows you to choose from English, Spanish, French, and German. Selecting the correct language ensures that accents, special characters, and specific grammar symbols are recognized correctly. If your source image is too large or has a complex layout, you might use a Compress Image tool or Resize Image utility to optimize the file before extraction for better performance.
Workflow and Accuracy Tips
To get the best results from the extraction process, use high-contrast images where the text is clearly separated from the background. Once you click Extract Text, the results appear in the Extracted Text textarea. From there, you can edit the content or use Copy Text to move it into a document editor or email. This is particularly useful for digitizing physical notes or grabbing snippets from PDF pages that don't allow text selection.
Handling Complex Layouts
While the tool is powerful, the accuracy of OCR can be affected by blurry text, handwritten notes, or skewed images. If an image is rotated incorrectly, using an Image Rotator before uploading can significantly improve character recognition. The tool focuses on clean, horizontal lines of text to provide the most reliable output.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work with handwritten notes?
Accuracy for handwriting varies significantly depending on legibility. This tool is optimized for printed text from digital documents or clear signs.
What image formats are supported?
You can upload most standard image files, including JPG, PNG, and WebP. For modern Apple formats, you may need an AVIF to PNG converter first.
Is there a limit on file size?
Since processing is local, very large images may slow down the extraction. It is recommended to keep image files under 10MB for the best experience.
How do I clear the results?
Use the Reset or Clear buttons to wipe the current image and the extracted text box for a fresh start.
